Maybe no-one besides my handful of DW mutuals will fill this out but let's try having a friending meme like in the good old days.

Date: 2022-11-27 02:38 am (UTC)You might find some inspiration in Recurring Posts. Lots of bloggers pick one or a few favorite topics to visit regularly. That makes it easy to maintain activity without running up your workload.
>>I've been so used to just dumping thoughts on twitter!<<
People do it here on Dreamwidth too, it's just not the majority trend. I made a post about Tweet-like Tidbits on Dreamwidth over on

Date: 2022-11-27 03:06 am (UTC)I love villains who are right. Their methods may be fucked up, but their core concern is valid. My favorites include Magneto and Poison Ivy.
So when I create villains for my settings, I tend to go for complex ones who have a goal that makes actual sense. I feel that it makes them more interesting characters. Based on reader feedback, the most popular one in this regard is probably Dr. Infanta. Whether she's a supervillain or a superhera depends on who you ask.
Who are some of your favorite villains?
>>musings on art/(censorship of),<<
I saw a reference to the Three Laws of Fandom in a new friend's blog, looked it up, and posted about it to start a discussion about freedom of expression and the importance of not being a dick because censorship makes fandom shrink. Ensuing conversations have been interesting.

Date: 2022-11-27 04:31 am (UTC):D Yeah, I stuck with feminine ones not because I am feminine, but because it is easy and I haven't found anything I like better enough to be worth the constant work of promoting it. Masculine is fine too. It's great when a language offers a nonspecific set. I'm not attached to anything.
I only started this year on DW, maybe some sewing posts or random topics will follow.
If you're into handicrafts, I listed relevant Arts and Crafts communities.

Many folks are posting about all different aspects of Dreamwidth, and there are many older ones for Tumblr users. My current one is Twitter Exodus.
The community
A key difference between DW and Tumbler is that comment threads work much better in DW, so it's easier to have ongoing conversations. Up to you whether that is a thing you wish to do.

Date: 2022-11-27 04:46 am (UTC)Now is a good time for that. Not only are folks talking about how to use Dreamwidth, they are talking about other services like Mastodon and Pillowfort for different uses. Various people have made resource posts; mine is Twitter Exodus. Also
>>I'm trying to settle into a pattern with DW again. Right now I'm updating sporadtically with life stuff, occasional mentions of what media I'm consuming, mentioning my writing life and I might be trying to come up with a template-type thing to help me post regularly but we'll see if I get my brain together enough to do that.<<
Lots of people on Dreamwidth use Recurring Posts for that. Some sort of daily or weekly update is common, but you can also pick one or more favorite topics that you feature regularly. These things make it easier to maintain activity without a lot of work.

There are a few land comms surviving here! I've seen them while researching other things, but searching "land comms" only brought up one active and that wasn't one I'd seen before:

Date: 2022-11-27 04:56 am (UTC)LOL that is right up there with the cheese submarine! Illinois has a town, Terre Haute, whose residents call it Terrible Hole. I heard this while looking at a parking lot that was mostly 1-2 feet underwater after a not-all-that-huge rainstorm, fortunately not flooding our car. But I couldn't really blame them for saying that.

Date: 2022-11-27 05:12 am (UTC)I do a lot of crowdfunded poetry if you want to come look at that. There is one autistic series and several assorted queer series or threads.
>>...i'm still settling in, so i don't really know yet.<<
Lots of folks are talking about how to use Dreamwidth right now. I made a Twitter Exodus post, and there is also
>>i'm an autistic and disabled person working toward self-publishing some very self-indulgent gay books. <<
I think the world needs more of that.
>>currently doing nanowrimo.<<
Go you!

Date: 2022-11-27 09:33 am (UTC)Your username on other social media: The same. Magpiefnglr on tumblr and discord. Magpiefearne on twitter.
Pronouns: she/her
Age bracket: mid-40s
Geographical area: The Mediterranean
Interests: Reading is the main one. I mainly (but not exclusively) read SFF and romance. I also like writing, watching TV series. photography, languages, folklore and fairytales. I used to be interested in the occult and I know quite a bit about astrology.
Fandoms: Used to be active in drarry but not anymore; currently I'm into MDZS/CQL, the other MXTX books, Kinnporsche, IWTV, OFMD. I like a lot of stuff but I haven't been active in any fandom for a couple of years, I just reblog cute art on tumblr.
What type of posts can we expect in your journal? My DW is dormant atm, but I'm hoping to resurrect it. My most recent posts are monthly life updates and reviews on what books I've read. I used to post fannish thoughts, or rather rants lol When I'm actively writing, I muse about writing issues. I might also post occasionally about mental health.
Anything else you'd like us to know? I aspire to write original romance.

Date: 2022-11-27 04:53 pm (UTC)I've also recently been in The Magnus Archives fandom, and The Magnus Protocol has also sparked my interest. I haven't gotten around to backing it (not that it needs my help, clearly!) but it looks like it's going to at least be interesting. I've enjoyed some of the work from some people they're getting in to do guest writing from the rest of the network.
I also enjoyed Our Flag Means Death, although I didn't get very fannish about it, and your fics look interesting, I'll have to give them a read!
