Fanfic Recap 2019

I'll (hopefully!) make a separate post for podfic, given how much of it there is now.

2016 a | 2016 b | 2016 c || 2017 || 2018

Here we go. They're relatively boring because I only published one new fic this year, but I can't just skip a year XD

Quick note: I don't remember if I deliberately didn't count my alternate versions of Standing Right in Front of You, but I'll be combining it into one count this year since it is the same fic only in different posting formats, and so the stats should be combined. Also, I only published one new fic this year so this is mainly popularity stats.

Quick note two: I'll use ⏫ to indicate that something has gone up in the ranks since last year, ⏹️ to indicate that it stayed where it was, and ⏬ that it moved down. ▶️ will show that it's new on the list.

What's your first and second most common work ratings? Any surprises?

Most common: Explicit (25)
Second most common: General Audiences (21)

No surprises. This was what it looked like last year, too, and like I said, I only published one new work.

What's your most common archive warning? Least common? Do you consider yourself an adventurous writer?

Most common: No Archive Warnings Apply (52)
Least common: Underage (1)

Again, no surprises, same reason. I only consider myself adventurous in that I take on projects that I don't think I can write, and then write them anyway.

How many fics have you written in each relationship category? Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences?

M/M: 41
Gen: 10
Multi: 5
F/M: 3
F/F: 1
Other: 1

This is going to be a super boring post since nothing changes except for one number going up XD

I've had a preference almost as long as I've been reading fanfic and I doubt it's going to change any time soon.

What are your top 4 fandoms by numbers? Are you still active in any of them, and do you tend to migrate a lot?

Merlin (TV): 37, apart from doing the podcast (and a handful of podfics), I've stopped creating content for this fandom. Finally XD
Sherlock (TV): 7, no longer active, still trying hard to forget I ever was xD
Leverage: 6, no longer active, might go back one day?
Supernatural (RPF): 2, no longer active and no desire to go back

What are your top 4 character tags? Does this match how you feel about the characters, or are you puzzled?

Morgana (Merlin) (8)
Percival (Merlin) (6)
Lancelot (Merlin) (6)
Uther Pendragon (Merlin) (5)

Can't wait for this to change one day XD

What are your top 2 most used additional tags, and your bottom 2? What would happen if you combined all 4 of these into a fic?

Most used: AU - Modern Setting (24); Blow Jobs (14)
Least used: Fluff (6) Romance (6)

I'm pretty sure I HAVE combined all four of those into a fic.

Total Stories Published 2018: 1
Total Words Published: 17,366 words
Average Words Per Story: 17,366 words (it was only the one XD)
Shortest Story: something in your smile (is so exciting)
Longest: something in your smile (is so exciting)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Definitely wrote much less than expected, but I'm still finding my writing mojo for this fandom. It's harder because I lost interest in the pairing I feel I know best XD I wrote 32k in the last couple of weeks but they're not published yet so they won't count until next year.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write most?

Romance :) and Sid/Geno.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

I did predict this pairing and this fandom AND this genre. I just didn't predict it'd be so few fics XD

Did you take any writing risks this year?

Nope, nothing I can talk about yet. It'll have to wait until next year's review.

Do you have any fanfic or general writing goals for the new year?

Write more. Trust myself more. Experiment with unfamiliar pairings more. It's work but it's also working out.

From the past year of writing, what was your…

... all of them are the same fic so I'm skipping this category this year. Refer back to 2018 for individual sub-categories.

The Sherlock fics are sinking!!!! Bit sad that my one fic of this year didn't even make the list, but not that surprising in a list of all my fics where the one with the lowest hit count is over 5k.

I am pleased that #5 has that spot now. It's, apart from #4, one of my favourite Merlin works I ever produced. Although I am fond of all of these, except #10. #1 is so-so. I love the worldbuilding and the art lao did for me, but it irrationally annoys me that it's my most popular work ever xD.

Little more movement here and as long as no one else comments on that Sherlock fic, it might be gone by next year XD If for nothing else, I should write for THAT. XD

[1] Leaving out bonus materials and any content that isn't actual fiction. I did create an alternate pseudonym for podfics, etc. though, so the data should be more accurate. Also, I've added the year in which these fics were published as another point of reference.
