Oooo, nice! I've got a fair number of bookbinding resources I've got bookmarked, if you want me to take a look through them for anything that might be useful to you? Or I could try and put together a post for fanbinding myself, thinking about it!
I've got recycled A4 paper that's the right grain, and honestly, it's so lovely (if expensive). I want to try binding something small with the wrong grain, sometime, just so I can compare what the effect actually is on a book, but... a million projects, and that's not taken priority!
Steerswomen looks like an interesting series! :O I also have a set of traditionally published books I want to bind myself, even though I own them in paperback. (One large and somewhat battered omnibus paperback, to be exact.) And vidding meta? :O I don't know much about vidding, but that sounds really interesting, and definitely worth making to donate to the con!
I hope you have fun making books! IMO, it's a bit of a learning curve but also not that hard to get something that looks at least roughly like a book, enough to satisfy the brain-gremlin that goes "must be instantly good at hobby". And I will have fun accumulating icons. :D
